Today in 1973 the first Remington typewriter went on sale featuring Christopher Latham Sholes' design. What made this design so special was how it prevented jams by separating the keys in the keyboard and slowing down the typist by placing the most commonly use letters on the left side. Because of the popularity of the Remington typewriters featuring the design, it soon became standard and remains so today in computers and cell phones around the world.
Better luck next time Dvorak.
